The leader of Russia’s Chechnya region, Ramzan Kadyrov, has expressed his support for the Palestinian people following the outbreak of war between Israel and the Hamas group. He conveyed this in his Telegram account, Monday (9/10/2023).
In his statement, Kadyrov appealed “to the international community” to call for a peaceful solution to the conflict. He said the Chechen Republic was ready to provide its own units as “peacekeeping forces” if needed.
“I appeal to the international community so that they can at least take a fair decision regarding the situation in Palestine at least once,” Kadyrov wrote in his Telegram account, quoted by Newsweek .
“I call on the leaders of Muslim countries to form a coalition and call on your so-called friends, Europe and the entire West, not to bomb civilians under the pretext of destroying militants.”
Kadyrov continued by emphasizing that his party supports Palestine. He also explained that he understands the provocation carried out by a group of Israeli citizens against the Muslim Ummah.
“We support Palestine and we oppose this war, which unlike other conflicts, could escalate into something bigger.”
“I myself have been to Israel. And our peaceful delegation experienced this blatant provocation attempt firsthand. Therefore, I call for a cessation of the war and all forms of escalation of the situation. If necessary, our units are ready to act as peacekeeping forces to restore order and fight troublemakers,” added the close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
On Saturday morning, a rocket attack was launched on Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip by the Hamas militant group. Alarm signals sounded continuously in many areas across the country, including the Tel Aviv area and its surroundings.
In response, Tel Aviv initiated a military operation called “Iron Sword”. Several media reported that the Israeli Army had launched an attack on the Gaza Strip after massive rocket fire from the Palestinian area.
The Palestinian movement’s wing Hamas issued a statement that during operations in Israel they arrested around 35 Israeli soldiers and settlers. Hamas revealed that this attack operation was a response to Israel’s aggressive activities against one of Islam’s holiest sites, the Al-Aqsa Mosque in the Old City of Jerusalem.
Russia itself has so far considered the escalation of conflict in the region as a consequence of non-compliance with UN Security Council resolutions. According to the spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, political and diplomatic methods are needed.
“This (can be resolved) through the establishment of a full negotiation process regarding an international agreement providing for the creation of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with its capital in East Jerusalem, living in peace and security with Israel,” he was quoted as saying by the official Russian media, TASS .
Russia also sees the massive escalation in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict as the result of a mistake by the West, which is known to always block several UN resolutions regarding the Middle East.
“We consider the current large-scale escalation of the situation as another very dangerous manifestation of the vicious cycle of violence, which is a direct consequence of systemic non-compliance with relevant resolutions of the UN and its Security Council as well as the blocking by the West of the work of the Middle East quartet of international mediators consisting of Russia, the US, the EU and the UN.”
