Today, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier held talks at the Bellevue Palace in Berlin, the presidential press service said.
The two leaders underscored the “unprecedented trend” in the Uzbek-German multifaceted ties, with intensive political, humanitarian and business contacts ongoing.
They also expressed shared opinion on the importance of bringing bilateral relations to a higher level.
The Presidents reviewed the ways to expand trade, economic, investment and technological cooperation, and identified priority areas for cooperation.
In recent years, the two way trade and the number of joint projects have doubled. The volume of German investments in our economy has reached 5.5 billion euros, including 4 billion euros attracted over the past few years.
The Presidents welcomed the outcomes of the business events, within the framework of which trade contracts and investment technology agreements worth over 9 billion euros were inked.
Berlin highly appreciates the efforts of Uzbekistan to ensure stability and prosperity in the Central Asian region. In this context, Germany expressed its readiness to support regional connectivity projects, including within the framework of the EU Global Gateway initiative.
The counterparts expressed Interest in strengthening partnership in the field of ensuring regional security, countering modern challenges and threats, primarily in the context of the situation in Afghanistan.
They pointed to the importance of continuing targeted humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people, including using the capabilities of the created infrastructure in the border city of Termez.
An agreement was reached on the preparation of a comprehensive program for the study of the German language in Uzbekistan, including by expanding the activities of the Goethe Institute in the regions of the country.
At the end of the meeting, Shavkat Mirziyoyev invited Frank-Walter Steinmeier to visit Uzbekistan.
