16th World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention Concluded in Bangkok

The 16th World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention (WCEC) concluded on Monday with experiences shared and ideas exchanged in navigating opportunities as the world recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Narongsak Putthapornmongkol, president of the Thai-Chinese Chamber of Commerce that hosts the convention, said the convention aims to build a new platform for the development of Chinese businesses worldwide to explore new opportunities for commerce, trade and investment, making new contributions to the global economic recovery.

During the three-day conference that gathered more than 3,000 entrepreneurs from around the world, participants engaged in extensive and in-depth discussions on topics such as the economic environment and investment advantages in Thailand, as well as the opportunities that originated from the Belt and Road Initiative, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area.

Speaking at the opening ceremony on Sunday, Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister Jurin Laksanawisit said China plays a crucial role in the global economy as the second largest economy in the world.

Chinese overseas businesses promote economic development in their resident countries and serve as essential bridges and ties between China and the business communities in other countries, said Jurin.

Dhanin Chearavanont, senior chairman of Thailand’s Charoen Pokphand Group, told the convention that China advocates for high-level openness, welcoming enterprises to invest in China, which presents enormous opportunities for Chinese businesses in Thailand and other countries to grow and collaborate with China.

Founded in 1991, the WCEC is an important biennial event for Chinese entrepreneurs around the globe. It aims at establishing an economic network linking Chinese entrepreneurs worldwide.
